Happy Summer Solstice Day!

Happy summer!

Vernal solstice arrived on Tuesday, June 21, marking the astronomical first day of summer, and the longest day of the year. The solstice is celebrated by many cultures around the world.

In the Northern Hemisphere, the June solstice occurs when the Sun travels along its northernmost path in the sky. This marks the astronomical start of summer in the northern half of the globe. In the Southern Hemisphere, it is the opposite: the June solstice marks the astronomical start of winter, when the Sun is at its lowest point in the sky.

Solstice marks the official beginning of summer in the Northern Hemisphere, which occurs when Earth arrives at the point in its orbit where the North Pole is at its maximum tilt toward the Sun, resulting in the longest day, or the longest period of sunlight hours, and the shortest night of the year.

In the Southern Hemisphere, the June solstice marks the beginning of winter.

It’s time to hit the beach, go to the county fair, visit a water park, go on a picnic, enjoy free concerts near you, go on a road trip, visit historic places, read a book by the lake, or just relax in a hammock, it is summer after all, and time to relax.

Have fun in the sun, don’t forget to hydrate, and seek out shady spots to rest.

Happy summer!
